Stop safely before anything else
If the engine is running and you suspect wrong fuel, switch it off as soon as it is safe to do so. Put the hazard lights on. If the car is still rolling, coast to the kerb or a side street rather than stopping in a through lane.
Do not stand between your car and moving traffic. Passengers should wait well away from the road, on the side furthest from passing vehicles.
Pick a side street or car park if you can
If the car is in a lane, do not push it alone. If a side street or car park is close and the car will roll safely with help, that is better than a main-road breakdown. Never push it onto a busy road.

Petrol in a diesel vehicle: if you notice the mistake at the pump, keep the engine off and do not attempt to drive away or dilute the mixture. Tell us the vehicle's correct fuel, roughly how much petrol was added and whether the engine ran. If it has been driven, stop and switch off when safe; explain any symptoms without restarting to demonstrate them.
Diesel in a petrol vehicle: leave the key off and do not add petrol to try to correct it. Keep the fuel receipt if available and describe the amounts added. A car that has already been started needs that fact recorded during booking; a fuel delivery is not a substitute for assessing the wrong-fuel situation.
Empty tank, rather than wrong fuel: choose emergency fuel delivery and confirm the fuel the vehicle actually takes. The $99 total package includes up to 5L within the standard 30 km Doncaster service area. Additional litres need a separate disclosed price and your approval.
